The Gym Near Burnside Where Beginners Are Genuinely Welcome

A Coach-Led Gym Just Minutes From Burnside

If you live in Burnside and you've been putting off joining a gym, this one's for you. The Training Academy Glasgow sits on Drakemire Drive in Castlemilk, a short hop from Burnside, and it works a wee bit differently from the big commercial gyms. Every single session is led by a qualified coach, so you're never left wandering about wondering what to do with a dumbbell.

Owner Patrick McVey and his team of coaches run the whole week as one structured programme. Strength development is the foundation, and around that you'll find circuit classes, Hyrox sessions and Pilates. You just turn up, and the coaches take care of the rest. No guesswork, no standing about, no feeling lost.

Come As You Are, Honestly

Here's the thing loads of folk from Burnside tell us: they feel they need to get fit before they join a gym. We'll say it plainly, that's back to front. You come here to get fit and strong, not the other way about. Complete beginners are not just tolerated, they're properly celebrated.

Our members are everyday people of all levels. Some have never lifted a weight in their lives, some are getting back into it after years away, and some are chasing serious strength goals. The coaches scale every session to you, so nobody's ever out of their depth. Effort is what gets a cheer here, not how much is on the bar.

Nervous about walking in the door for the first time? That's completely normal, and it's exactly why we offer a free taster session. Come along, meet the coaches, try a session, and see how it feels. Bring a pal or your partner too, training together is very much encouraged.

Sessions That Fit Around Real Life

We know Burnside is full of busy people, so the timetable reflects that. Sessions kick off at 6am Monday to Friday, with evening slots and weekend sessions too. We're open seven days a week, which makes us a popular choice for shift workers who can't stick to a rigid routine.

Because the whole week runs as one programme, it doesn't matter which sessions you can make. Whatever days you're in, you're getting a properly balanced week of strength work, conditioning and movement, all designed by the coaching team.

More Than Just Training

Getting strong isn't just about what happens in the gym, so membership includes nutritional guidance to help you get your food working for you, not against you. You'll also get weekly emails packed with food advice, explanations of what you're training and why, plus video demos so you can see exactly how each movement should look.

Membership starts from GBP140 per month, and there are flexible plans with no lock-in on some options, so you're not tied into anything that doesn't suit you. It's a proper investment in coached training, and members from Burnside and beyond will tell you the support, structure and community are what make it worth it.
