The Muirend Gym Built for Mums, by People Who Get It
A gym where mums actually belong
Strength in Mums is a female-only strength and conditioning gym in Muirend, on Glasgow's southside. It exists because most gyms are not really built with mums in mind. Ours is. Every class, every coach and every bit of programming is designed around the reality of life with wee ones, whether yours is six weeks old or sixteen.
There are no mirrors-and-machismo vibes here. Just small-group coaching, proper barbells and dumbbells, and a room full of women cheering each other on. If you have never lifted a weight in your life, brilliant. Most of our members started exactly there.
Small-group strength coaching, not big-box chaos
We keep our sessions small on purpose. That means your coach actually knows your name, your history and what your body has been through. You get real technique coaching on squats, deadlifts, presses and more, scaled to where you are today, not where some app thinks you should be.
Strength training is one of the best things a mum can do for her body. It rebuilds what pregnancy and birth take out of you, protects your joints and bones for the long haul, and honestly, it just makes lugging a car seat and a toddler up the stairs a lot easier.
Signature sessions: the 6am Lift and Mums & Babies
The 6am Lift is for the early risers, the ones who want their training done before the school run even starts. It is quiet, focused and weirdly lovely. You lift, you laugh, you are home before anyone notices you were gone.
Mums & Babies is exactly what it sounds like. Bring the wean. Babies come along in prams or on playmats while you train, and nobody bats an eyelid at a mid-set feed or a cuddle break. It is postnatal-friendly from the ground up, with movements adapted for wherever you are in your recovery.
Postnatal-friendly, always
Postnatal recovery is not an afterthought here, it is baked into how we coach. We take core and pelvic floor considerations seriously, we progress you gradually, and we never make you feel daft for taking a modification. Your body did something extraordinary. We train it with the respect it deserves.
If you are newly postnatal, just let us know when you get in touch and we will chat through where to start. There is no rush and no pressure, only a plan that fits you.
Right here in Muirend, part of the southside
We are based in Muirend, easy to reach from Cathcart, Netherlee, Clarkston, Kings Park and across Glasgow's southside. Plenty of our members walk or wheel the pram over, and the location makes it simple to squeeze a session in around nursery drop-offs and everything else on the list.
More than anything, this is a community-first gym. Members swap babysitting tips, meet for coffees after class and celebrate each other's first pull-ups like they have won the lottery. Come train with us and you will see what we mean.

Frequently asked questions
I have never been to a gym before. Is Strength in Mums right for me?
Absolutely. Most of our members were complete beginners when they started. Our small-group format means a coach is always on hand to teach you every movement from scratch, at your own pace. No experience needed, just a willingness to give it a go.
Can I really bring my baby to class?
Yes! Our Mums & Babies sessions are designed for exactly that. Bring your wee one in the pram or pop them on a playmat beside you. Feeds, nappy changes and cuddle breaks are all part of the rhythm of the class.
How soon after having a baby can I start training?
It varies from person to person, so we always recommend getting the go-ahead from your GP or health visitor first, typically after your postnatal check. Once you are cleared, we will start you gently with postnatal-appropriate movements and build up from there.
Is the gym really women only?
Yes, Strength in Mums is a female-only gym. It is a deliberate choice so members feel completely comfortable training, feeding, and being themselves without any awkwardness.
