A Personal Trainer in Cardonald Who Actually Gets Mum Life

Strength Coaching Built Around You, Not the Other Way Round

If you have ever typed 'personal trainer near me' at 11pm while feeding a baby, wondering if you will ever feel strong again, you are exactly who we built The Matriark Gym for. We are a female-only strength and conditioning gym on Glasgow's southside, a short hop from Cardonald, and we do things a wee bit differently.

Instead of one-to-one sessions in a busy commercial gym where you feel watched, our coaching happens in small groups. You still get personal attention on your technique, your programme and your goals, but you get it alongside other women who are in the same boat. Think personal trainer level coaching with a room full of pals cheering you on.

Postnatal-Friendly Training You Can Trust

Coming back to exercise after having a baby is not the same as picking up where you left off, and it should never be treated that way. Our coaches understand postnatal bodies. We take things at your pace, focus on rebuilding core and pelvic floor strength properly, and progress you when you are ready, not when a generic programme says so.

And because we know childcare is the single biggest barrier for mums in Cardonald and across the southside, our Mums & Babies classes let you bring the wee one along. Babies come to the session, you get your training done, and nobody bats an eyelid at a mid-set feed or a cuddle break.

The 6am Lift: For Mums Who Want Their Hour Back

Some mums want the opposite of a baby-in-tow class. They want one hour that is completely theirs before the house wakes up. That is what our signature 6am Lift is for. You are in, you lift heavy things with proper coaching, you are home before the school run, and you have already done the hardest thing you will do all day.

If you live in Cardonald, we are an easy early-morning trip along the southside. Plenty of our 6am regulars started as complete beginners who had never touched a barbell. Now it is the bit of the day they refuse to give up.

Why Women in Cardonald Choose Us Over a Traditional Personal Trainer

A good personal trainer gives you a programme. A great gym gives you a programme and a community, and honestly, the community is what keeps you turning up in week six when motivation has done a runner. At The Matriark Gym, you will know the names of the women training beside you. They will notice when you are missing. That matters more than any fitness app streak.

Because it is female-only, there is no gym-floor awkwardness, no waiting around for equipment while someone films themselves, and no pressure to look a certain way. Just women from Cardonald, Govan, Pollok and across the southside getting stronger together, coached by people who genuinely care whether you turn up next week.

Frequently asked questions

Is this the same as hiring a one-to-one personal trainer?

It is similar in the things that matter. You get coached technique, a structured programme and personal attention to your goals. The difference is you train in a small group of women rather than one-to-one, which keeps it affordable, keeps it sociable, and honestly makes it far easier to stick with.

I have just had a baby. How soon can I start?

That depends on your birth, your recovery and your GP or health visitor's advice, so we always recommend getting the all-clear at your postnatal check first. Once you are cleared, our coaches will start you gently with postnatal-appropriate movements and build up from there. There is no rush and no pressure.

Can I really bring my baby to a class?

Yes, that is exactly what our Mums & Babies sessions are for. Babies come along, and the class is structured so you can pause for feeds, nappies or cuddles whenever you need to. Nobody minds, because everyone in the room has been there.

I have never lifted weights before. Will I be out of my depth?

Not at all. Most of our members started as complete beginners. Our coaches teach every movement from scratch and scale everything to your level, so you will never be handed a weight you are not ready for. The only thing you need on day one is a willingness to give it a go.

Where are you based and how do I get there from Cardonald?

We are on Glasgow's southside, an easy trip from Cardonald whether you drive or take public transport. Get in touch and we will send you directions, class times and everything you need for your first visit.
