A Gym in Williamwood Built for Mums, by People Who Get It

Not Your Average Gym

Strength in Mums is a female-only strength and conditioning gym serving Williamwood and Glasgow's southside. It was built for one reason: mums deserve a place to train that actually fits their lives, not the other way round.

There are no mirrors-and-machismo vibes here, and nobody is left guessing what to do with a barbell. Every session is coached in small groups, so you get real attention, proper technique, and a wee bit of banter along the way. Whether you have not lifted a weight since school or you are itching to get back to training after having a baby, you will be met exactly where you are.

Postnatal-Friendly Training, Done Properly

Returning to exercise after having a baby is not the same as starting from scratch, and it should not be treated that way. Our coaching is postnatal-friendly from the ground up, which means sessions are adapted around where your body is right now, whether that is six weeks or six years post-baby.

You will build strength gradually and sensibly, with coaches who understand things like core recovery and pelvic floor considerations, and who will never push you into anything that does not feel right. Strong is the goal, but strong on your terms.

The 6am Lift and Mums & Babies Classes

Two of our signature sessions have become firm favourites with mums around Williamwood. The 6am Lift is for the early risers who want the training done before the school run chaos kicks off. There is something brilliant about lifting heavy while the rest of the house is still asleep, and the 6am crew will tell you it sets up the whole day.

Then there are our Mums & Babies classes, where you bring the wee one along. No childcare juggling, no guilt, no rushing. Babies come as they are, and so do mums. It is one of the few places in the southside where getting a proper strength session in does not require a military-grade logistics operation.

Community First, Always

Ask anyone who trains with us and they will tell you the same thing: they came for the training and stayed for the people. Motherhood can be isolating, especially in those early years, and having a regular session with women who genuinely get it makes a real difference.

We are part of the Glasgow southside community and proud of it. Members come from Williamwood, Clarkston, Netherlee, Giffnock and beyond, and plenty of friendships made in the gym carry on well outside it, from coffee after class to school gate chats.

Easy to Reach from Williamwood

Based in Glasgow's southside, we are a short hop from Williamwood, whether you are coming by car, on foot, or squeezing a session in between nursery drop-off and everything else on the list. Sessions run at times designed around real family schedules, mornings included, because we know 'I will go after work' rarely survives contact with a toddler's bedtime.

If you are local and curious, the easiest way to find out if we are your kind of gym is to come along, meet the coaches, and see a session for yourself. No pressure, no hard sell, just a warm welcome.

Frequently asked questions

I have never lifted weights before. Is this gym right for me?

Absolutely. Most of our members started with little or no strength training experience. Small-group coaching means a coach is always on hand to teach you the movements properly and progress you at a pace that suits you.

How soon after having a baby can I start training?

That varies for everyone, so we always recommend getting the go-ahead from your GP or health visitor first, usually after your postnatal check. From there, our coaches will tailor sessions around your recovery, including core and pelvic floor considerations.

Can I really bring my baby to a class?

Yes, that is exactly what our Mums & Babies classes are for. Babies stay in the room with you while you train, and nobody bats an eyelid at a mid-session feed, nappy change or cuddle. It is all part of it.

Is the gym only for mums?

The gym is female-only and built with mums in mind, so the coaching, class times and community all reflect that. If you are a mum in or around Williamwood looking for a supportive place to get strong, you will fit right in.

What is the 6am Lift?

It is our early morning strength session for mums who want to train before the day gets going. You lift, you have a laugh with the crew, and you are home before anyone else is up. Early starts have never felt so worth it.
